Pine Tree Council is excited to announce that People's United Bank will sponsor the 2017 Scouting for Food Drive. Maine ranks 12th in the nation and 1st in New England in food insecurity; 16.2 percent of Maine households -- more than 208,000 Maine people -- are food insecure.
This year's goal is 25 tons of food, which breaks down to about 25 pounds of food collected per Scout in the Pine Tree Council.
On Saturday, November 11th, Scouts will canvas Southern Maine door to door, delivering flyers that ask Mainers to support this year's food drive to support both the Good Shepherd Food Bank and local food pantries.
One week later, on November 18 th , Scouts will collect non-perishable items both door-to-door and at "fill-the-tent" events at grocery stores and at the LL Bean flagship store in Freeport. Items can also be left in specially marked donation boxes at all branches of People's United Bank.
Unit Leaders can print their own flyers using the templates in the Unit Guide or call 207-797-5252 ext 10 and ask for some to be printed at the Council offices.
