For one day thousands of Scouts from all over Maine will gather at L.L. Bean in Freeport to celebrate Scouting and the outdoors through activities such as rock climbing, outdoor cooking, scavenger hunts and so much more.
On May 13, 2017, L.L. Bean will host a free event in Discovery Park to help kids, Scouts and adults get excited about the Scouting movement in Maine with free activities for boys, girls and adults of all ages.
There will be stations to make first aid kits, race pinewood derby cars, climb rock walls and more. This year's event will be bigger and better to encourage teenagers to get involved in the Scouting movement for the adventure and fun.
From the morning's grand parade of Maine Scouts at 9 a.m. to obstacle courses and a mobile Scout Shop, the activities will run until 4 p.m.
Scouting provides boys from 5 to 21 and girls from 13 to 21, the opportunities to be a leader in their community through service and fellowship. The character development and values-based leadership training, which helps young people be "Prepared. For Life." can only be found in Scouting. The Scouting organization is composed of more than 2.3 million youth members between the ages of 7 and 21 and nearly 1 million adult volunteers in local councils throughout the United States and its territories. Scouting provides unique, life-changing experiences youth can't get anywhere else.
The official mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.
